Riedholz (SO): Burkhardt Architects wins out on Atthisholz site

The winning project for the «Kocherei» subproject on the Atthisholz site in Riedholz (SO) comes from Burkhardt Architekten in Basel. The site is being developed by Halter AG.

With the land use plan that came into force in January 2022, the planning law basis was created for developing the Attisholz site in Riedholz over the next 25 years. Within the framework of the guidelines from the previous study commission on open spaces and urban development, the first important building block, the Kocherei building, has now been processed in a further procedure.

A total of seven teams led by architectural firms were invited to participate in a competition to design the future of the Kocherei. The aim of the process was to develop a high-quality project for the Kocherei building with a variety of uses—residential, services, commercial, gastronomy—within the guidelines defined for open space and urban development. Its architectural design should strengthen the identity of the area and optimally connect the various levels—boulevard, tunnel, playground, and Aareplatz—with the open spaces.

The process was accompanied by a broad-based assessment committee consisting of architects, urban planners, representatives of the municipality of Riedholz, the Office for Spatial Planning of the Canton of Solothurn, and the landowner Halter AG.

Of the seven studies, the project «Das Pionierhaus» (The Pioneer House) by Burckhardt Architektur AG from Basel prevailed and was recommended for further development.

The next step is to launch the competition for the adjacent warehouse, which, together with the open spaces and the kitchen, will form the basis for the subsequent design plan for the first construction phase. Implementation is scheduled for 2024 to 2026. (aw)
